On July 29, 2011, the Asian American Bar Association of Kansas City (Ą°AABAKCĄ±) held its Sixth Annual Dinner. The reception and dinner drew a capacity crowd of 160 attendees, including many reputable community leaders. AABAKC presented its first Vanguard Award to Hon. Duane Benton, United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, in recognition of his steadfast support since AABAKCĄŻs inception in 2005. The organization also awarded a $2,500 Diversity Scholarship to Trang Bui, a second year law student attending the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. The highlight of the dinner program was keynote speaker, Hon. Amul Thapar, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky, who spoke candidly about his background and his experience as a federal judge. Following the dinner, attendees enjoyed a karaoke reception.

AABAKC members recently attended the NAPABA Central Region Conference in St. Louis.

In 2011, AABAKC hosted a panel presentation on interviewing and networking, Everything you Wanted to Know but were Afraid to Ask, for local law students and sponsored the Asian American Chamber of Commerce CelebrAsian event. AABAKC was also a proud joint sponsor of a free CLE on Judicial Independence on May 12, 2011, with KC-LEGAL, the KCMBA, the Jackson County Bar Association, the Hispanic Bar Association of Greater Kansas City, and the Association for Women Lawyers. On April 7, 2011, AABAKC also co-sponsored a poker event to raise money for disaster relief to benefit survivors of the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

AABAKC is active in partnering with other bar associations and legal organizations to promote diversity in our legal community and to give back to the Kansas City community. AABAKC Board members actively participate in the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association's (KCMBA) Diversity Section, KCMBA Heartland Diversity Legal Job Fair, the Missouri Bar Committee on Minority Issues, the Legal Aid of Western Missouri, Lawyers Encouraging Academic Performance as well as other organizations. AABAKC is also in the process of planning a joint CLE with the other local minority bar associations and planning a tour of the new Kaufman Center for the Performing Arts..
